Journey-Honduras Background

Predisan and The Journey first got introduced by Greg Taylor and Amanda Madrid, when Greg traveled to Honduras to write the book, Lay Down Your Guns that tells the amazing story of Dr. Madrid’s life. It was during the research and writing of this book that Greg met Bartola Kuruvilla, who is now the Children’s Minister at The Journey. Bartola is Dr. Madrid’s daughter.

The Journey Team 2017

Bartola led a mission team of ten people from The Journey to Predisan in Honduras to witness what this organization is all about. On that trip, the team focused on building relationships with patients and staff at The Good Samaritan Health Center, worked on activities with the elementary kids at the school in the community of Bacadillas, worked on improving the facilities of the Health Center, interior and exterior, led a seminar of “Working as a Team” to Honduran men and women.

What is Predisan?

Predisan is a Christian Healthcare Ministry located in Catacamas, Honduras.  “Predisan” comes from two Spanish words meaning “to proclaim” and “to heal,” as in Luke 9:2 when Jesus sent out the apostles “to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” In short, Predisan is about “Proclaiming Jesus, Healing Lives.”

We are excited to share with you that we have started planning our second trip from The Journey to Predisan, and the community of Bacadillas, Honduras. This time it is two of us traveling, Dr. Barrie Kaiser and Bartola Kuruvilla. During the past two years, The Journey has stayed connected in different ways with Predisan. Now we are ready to reconnect and see in person improvements in our relationship and in work Predisan does. We hope to be getting a tour of Predisan’s implementation of 5S, a system introduced to Martha Rivera during her shadowing at the Journey, then developed with Predisan staff.

Barrie and Bartola go way back. They met at Oklahoma Christian in 2001. They participated in at least three mission trips together with many other Memorial Road Church of Christ Members and Oklahoma Christian Students and Professors. These teams traveled to Tegucigalpa, the capital city, and were led by Dudley Chancey, professor from the Bible Department and truly a Honduras fan. Bartola’s job on these trips was mainly to interpret, while Barrie’s job was to mix concrete and carry rocks! Them both have a passion and love of missions. Now, they both are enjoying married life, live in Tulsa and are members at The Journey! What a blessing to reconnect in the body of Christ!

Bartola Kuruvilla

Bartola is the Children’s Minister and is married to Thomas (TJ) Kuruvilla. They are current foster parents of a wonderful 5 year old boy. They love serving within the church and outside of it as opportunities present themselves. Being an adopted kid herself, Bartola has a heart for missions and grew up as the result of Mission Predisan in Honduras. As a Loving Wife, Mom, and Children’s Minister: she is astonished to see how God’s hand has worked in her life.
