The amazing Jordan River crossing is depicted in Joshua 3. Here is where Israel must again trust God and step into the waters and watch the Lord do wonders.
Two verses stood out to me when reading this again today.
“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place. Follow it, so that you may know the way you should go, for you have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:3-4).
The Lord and Joshua were leading Israel into a land they’d never gone before, though centuries before Abraham and Sarah had lived in this region.
Then Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you” (Joshua 3:5).
I wonder what this means, if it means we must prepare ourselves to truly see God at work in our lives.
NEXT STEP
Israel was commanded to step into the water and then it would stop flowing and they could cross on dry ground (Joshua 3:13). Could we learn to trust you that much? To trust that wherever we put our feet, you are going to care for us? Few of us believe we are going to just sail through life and have no problems, but please give us simple, uncluttered trust.
PRAYER
LORD, help us step into the waters in simple uncluttered trust in You.
