READING MATTHEW 25
The scene is one of the most vivid, scary, and poignant portraits painted by of any of Jesus’s words. Why? Because a string of parables suddenly comes to a dramatic conclusion with Jesus shifting from third person stories to first person account of a certain future for each and every person in the world.
We each will appear before the throne of Jesus Christ. While we can’t discover everything about the world to come from this one text, we can learn some very important things about Jesus Christ and what He expects of humanity, how He himself has identified with the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, and prisoner.
Serious disciples can’t get this story of the sheep and the goats out of our heads. It’s haunting but also motivation for living in the way Jesus expects of us.
The whole scene follows parable after parable about the wise who get ready for the kingdom and coming of the master, and the foolish who reject the warnings, waste their lives and receive the just punishment for rejecting God.
