Would you die in service to Christ? Christ calls us to give up our lives, to love him more than anything we treasure, including family, to follow him where he leads. This is incredibly hard but we could think of worse things than giving our lives for our Savior and Lord!
Giving our lives does not mean we become martyrs in the sense of suicide bombers who perpetrate violence but peacemakers who may stand in the way of people who are evil and want nothing of what we have.
Sunday I spoke about families and individuals losing their lives for Christ. I asked if we are willing to give our lives or our children’s lives for our country, should we not also be willing to give our lives and our children’s lives for the cause of Christ?
What are some examples of how we might give our lives for Christ? We may be put in harm’s way when we mess with making the crooked straight in our communities or the world.
For instance, you can stand for the gospel as a mayor, like Cory A. Booker, mayor of Newark, New Jersey, started hitting the streets of his city after each senseless drive by shooting and to face up gangs and out in the open say, “We’re not going to stand for this in our city,” he got death threats.
Or when you start messing with the revenue streams of human trafficking at I-44 truck stops like O.A.T.H. (Oklahomans Against Trafficking of Humans), you’re going to get death threats.
What some other examples of ways we might be put in harm’s way for the sake of the gospel of Christ?
