I’m thinking this morning about Christ’s phrase, God the gardener “cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
This is the gardener’s love: to lovingly prune, to rain down grace, to enjoy watching the growth.
Those who are faithful will still be and must be pruned.

A simple concept to understand, and a very difficult one to practice. I don’t want to cut back! I want to keep on adding! And yet, the principle is – if you DON’T cut back, what you add is less valuable than if you did.
I was reading Andy Stanley’s 7 Practices of Effective Leaders in which he quotes this verse in his chapter talking about “less is more.” Great analogy!
Speaking as a gardener, who has watch her garden “go” instead of “grow” at times, I continuously appreciate the labour of love it has been for Him to work on me. I thank Him that he doesn’t give up because it gets too frustrating. Nope, he take out his tools, sighs, and keeps pruning….
….amen!
