Getting in hot water

G. K. Chesterton. “I believe in getting into hot water; it keeps you clean.” [Quotes of the Day]
T. S. Eliot. “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” [Daily Celebrations]

I don’t want to write a book, article, blog just to write it or be a writer. Writing is telling the truth. That’s why we write. We don’t write to hide. We write to reveal. We write to tell the truth.
I’m reading a book–Speaking My Mind–right now by a guy who’s been in a lot of hot water: Tony Campolo. From the get-go we’re reminded in the book that Evangelicals do not necessarily have to be Fundamentalists and Christians don’t necessarily have to be Republicans and that one Evangelical does not necessarily speak for all other Christians, yet Campolo appeals to Evangelicals to call him still a brother. He calls himself an Evangelical but not a Fundamentalist nor a Republican but an Evangelical who stands for fair, right, loving treatment, according to God’s mandates, of those marginalized in our world.
