The national conversation about security centers on concerns such as fighting terrorism, border control, better intelligence. We don’t like the feelings of fear we’ve felt, particularly since 9/11. Karl Barth said that security is a modern idol. Donald McCullough calls comfort a “Western deity.” Do we idolize security? Do we deify comfort? Why, Greg, we don’t have to worry about security any more! It’s taken care of! In his resignation letter, Attorney General John Ashcroft said it clearly: “The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved.” Not just terror, but crime and terror.
I know I feel a whole lot safer!
Why, I might as well stop praying about it.
But I’ll take a look at Sarah’s article just out of curiosity.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature,
nor do the children of men
as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer
in the long run than outright exposure.

A good friend of mine is a retired Navy Seal demolition expert. He says that any time they choose 10 to 100 suicide bombers can board airplanes, go into the restroom, take C-4 plastics with detonater out of a tube concealed in their colon, and blow the airplanes in half at a given agreed time, all planes exploding within a few seconds of each other. These people are coming across the Mexican border having paid their way up thru Mexico similar to how the drug trafficers do.
